Kaonashi Ga Suki

You know the old saying, “When it rains, it pours”? I’ve been experiencing that within these last two weeks.

As some of you may or may not know, I’ve been out of a job since October and have been searching madly ever since. I’ve struck out twice during two phone interviews, have received a flat-out rejection letter, and never heard back by most of the companies to which I’ve applied. In December I interviewed with a company and was asked to come back a second time. Although they told me that I was very qualified and that they liked me, during the last interview they told me that they’re not in a big hurry to hire right now, but they’d let me know in about a month. That was on January 4. I called during the second week of February and they said that they haven’t decided on anything yet. During the whole month of January and the first half of February I had nothing. No interviews, no calls. I wasn’t even finding enough jobs to apply for. Things seemed bleak.

Then last week things started to clear up.

1.) I get an email from my grad school advisor. It turned out that she has a little stipend reserved for grad student assistants and asked if I’d like to work for her. It’s a very small stipend, but every little bit would help since I ain’t got nothin’ right now.

2.) On Friday my boyfriend and I went to Vegas for the weekend. While standing in line at the Bellagio front desk to check in, I checked my voicemail and found that an HR person had called to schedule an interview with me, which was yesterday. At first I didn’t think that things went well because one of the people I interviewed with remarked that I may be overqualified, not to mention that I’m not too familiar with that particular field. However, I was called later than evening to return today to receive a little computer training with the person who I might be replacing.

3.) While I was out to lunch today I checked my voicemail again and found another HR person requesting to schedule an interview with me this week.

Holy cow! I hope this keeps up.
