Online vs. Brick-and-Mortar Shopping?

By this point, I’ll assume that many of you have at least started your holiday shopping. Hell, I bet that some of you started during Black Friday. Then again, I’m sure that a lot of you won’t begin your holiday shopping until December 24 ;)

I tell ya, I don’t like Christmas shopping. I love shopping and going to the mall in general, but Christmas shopping is an mind-numbing, exhausting experience. I don’t relish driving around the parking lot for a half hour in the hopes of finding a space. I don’t like the claustrophobic feeling I get in the mall as I try to swim through the sea of people. I can’t stand waiting in long lines. It’s nuts!

As an alternative of course, we can instead shop online. Amazon, Newegg, Borders, and tons of other online stores are open 24/7. No looking for parking. No crowds. No long lines. You just add your stuff to your virtual cart, pay, and that’s it. Easy peasy. Of course there are some drawbacks. For one thing, you have to pay shipping and handling, but I think that it’s a small nuisance in exchange for maintaining your sanity. Then again, some items, like clothing, are better purchased in real life so you can see and touch it for yourself.

So how are you guys handling your holiday shopping this year? Are you braving the malls, or are you surfing the net for deals? Or perhaps a little of both?

This year, I’m hoping to do EVERYTHING online. My Christmas list is pretty short. It only consists of my immediate family and a few friends.
