Damn Video Games Taking Over My Life! :)
Published by Toni August 15th, 2006 in Uncategorized. So yes, I still haven’t had much to write about these days. I’ve also been busy playing video games. For a while it was all about The Sims 2. Actually, it was a combination of X-Men Legends on the PS2 (which I’d play with my boyfriend) and The Sims 2. When we finally finished X-Men Legends, I concentrated more on The Sims 2. I started playing TS2 in April and only stopped around mid-July when I finally got bored with it and took up Warcraft 3 again for a while. Then I grew bored with that too and bought Guild Wars. My very first MMORPG. It’s really fun, and cool to play against other people. So far I’m level 10, and BTW if anyone is interested in playing with me sometime email me and I’ll tell you my character name. I’m also looking for a cool guild to join if anyone will have me
Anyway, I then did a very bad thing.
I got Oblivion.
This game promises at least a hundred hours of gameplay. I now have less of a life than I usually do
So now I go back and forth between Guild Wars and Oblivion throughout the week.
I’ve always been a video game nut. I remember playing on the good old Atari 2600. Ah, those were the days. Then there was the Christmas when my parents gave my brother and I the original Nintendo Entertainment System. I put in the Super Mario Bros. cartridge and was hooked instantly. I recall going to bed and dreaming that I was still playing the game. I would hear the catchy little tune in my head and see Mario running across the screen, stomping on goombas and such. My brother and I quickly amassed a small collection of Nintendo games. Some were good, like The Legend of Zelda. Some were bad, like Double Dragon. Then we moved on to the Super Nintendo, and once again my brother and I had a small collection of cool games, though not as many. The graphics and sound were better, and the games were harder.
Then my brother stopped liking video games. He never got into the original Playstation or the PS2. He got more into basketball and math. I on the other hand, moved on to PC games in college. It started off simple- your basic Solitaire, which comes in every computer with a Microsoft OS. But then my boyfriend introduced me to Civilization 2, and I haven’t been the same since.
Granted, I’m not a hardcore gamer. I don’t buy and play every game out there, and I don’t compete in contests and such (especially since I’m never good enough). And while I have recently been staying up till 3 in the morning to play, I don’t play all day and don’t let games consume my life (at least I try not to :P). I also don’t really play video games at arcades. My reasoning is that I often suck so bad that I feel it’s a waste of money. Nevertheless, I consider myself a girl gamer, and am proud to be one of the few out there. But we’re a growing group, so that’s pretty cool.
So, do you guys play games? Console/PC/Online? What kinds of games do you like to play? For me, I play both PC and console. I also like playing those free little online games, many of which you can find at Jay is Games. As for the types of games I like to play, it really depends on my mood. For the quick little online games, I like puzzles- word puzzles, mind puzzles, Tetris-like stuff, etc. For the PC I like strategy games like the Civilization series, but I also like RTS like StarCraft and WarCraft 3. Sci-fi and fantasy are fun genres, but I’m not too big a fan of military-style games like Battlefield 2.
Speaking of which, I hope my boyfriend finishes playing Battlefield 2 soon so I can return to playing Oblivion. Yep, it’s gonna be another one of those sleepless nights

Heck yeah.
I’m hooked on Fight Night 2 for GameCube. What a great boxing simulator!
I can beat any fighter, any weight class, anytime, anywhere.
Yep.
Ah yes, my boyfriend plays Fight Night 2 on his XBox 360. I seriously can’t stand that Burger King character that your character can use as a trainer. Everytime I see it, I want to punch it right in the face.
I’ve been a “girl gamer” since my dad brought home the original Nintendo when I was little. All my friends grew out of it around the age of 12, and I just kept on playing. My favorites are RPGs, like Final Fantasy, although I also appreciate a good platformer like Mario.
I can’t get into the Sims though, although my sister was a huge fan. I’d make the character I was controlling shower, go to the bathroom, make lunch…and then I’d realize I needed to be doing all of that in real life! I know they’ve gotten far more complex over the years, but I need my games to have some definite END to them!
You’re right video games are addictive. I spent almost a semester on Grand Theft Auto Vice City and I am still working on San Andreas… Have you ever played either? THey almost never end!!!
Brooke- the cool thing about Sims is that you can make them do stupid things that you’d never do in real life…like have multiple boyfriends
Damon- I’ve never played GTA but my boyfriend has. He loves it. Have you heard the mp3s of the radio shows from the game? They’re hilarious!
You may like Kingdom of Loathing Which is a sarcastic online rpg.
Oh… and Check out The whores of warcraft too.
