Carpal Tunnel and Rude Doctors
Published by Toni April 11th, 2006 in Uncategorized. As many of you know, I recently got a new part-time job, and I’m supposed to start on Monday. Unfortunately, I have to pass some stupid health screening first, and when I went last Friday for the screening, the nurse detected symptoms of possible carpal tunnel. Granted, I did mention beforehand that I had some mild pains in my arms, and I do regret saying anything. Obviously the company doesn’t want to be responsible if I get injured on the job so she told me to see a doctor to give the ok that I can work.
I found a local doctor and went to see her today, and I have to say that she was quite rude! She scolded me several times for telling the nurse about my potential carpal tunnel. She said that if it’s not a life threatening issue, I should just keep my mouth shut when it comes to company-enforced health screenings since it may cost me the position. I understood where she was coming from and once again regretted mentioning anything to the company nurse. But the thing is that, I’m used to be upfront with a physician or nurse when describing any symptoms I’m experiencing. It was foolish of me to say anything in the first place, but that doctor had no right to make me feel stupid. Hell, she even told me to stop fidgeting. When I was absentmindedly playing with my cuticles as she talked, she told me to cut it out. I felt really insulted. I didn’t appreciate being treated like a child. At one point she said something like, “Oh, you’re a new patient? Welcome to blah blah blah hospital”. Thanks, bitch, but I’m not coming back after you give me the ok signal to work.
Now I have to go and get X-rays done tommorow. I hope they find nothing and I can be on my merry way.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience! But never be afraid or hesitant to speak up about your health… I understand why you might want to keep certain symptoms on the downlow, but ideally, you shouldn’t have to… health care professionals are all about HIPAA (which is a patient privacy act) and it’s a shame some people just can’t learn to leave their judgmental attitude at home.
Doctors don’t know anything. Some of them are big jerks. Anyway, I hope you’re okay.
Thanks for commenting on my blog. My coworker is under the impression that Adriana Lima is a virgin, so he wants to marry her. Thanks for your input on Easter.
Take care,
David
Kick her ass, seabass.
I hope you don’t have carpal tunnel syndrome. You might be blogging too much. Heh heh!
Thanks for your insightful comments!
Take it easy,
David
Haha, apparently the potential liability for health care costs is even worse than a criminal record to a company… I hope everything works out well :).
Send a letter of complaint yo her facility.
Haemi- Thanks! I’m just hoping that I get the ok signal to start work next Monday.
David- Things have been ok so far. Glad to see that my Easter comment was informative
Ronald- I’d love to!
David- I think it’s more of me playing Warcraft 3 too much!
Damon- Seems that way. It’s not like they can fire me though, right? They’ve already hired me. This was just some dumb formality.
bug- I’d like to, but I don’t really want to deal with her any further. Bleh.
