New Blog Site
Published by Toni March 28th, 2006 in Uncategorized.Ok, I think I’m ready to reveal le new blog site. It’s still not quite right (archives are still kind of messed up from the move) but it’s functional.
Ok, the name of my new movie review site is NoFace for Film. Please update your bookmarks, blogrolls, link lists, feeds, etc.
I made the banner myself. Yeah I know, it looks really simple- but I spent a lot of time on it!
Yes, NoFace is “Kaonashi” in English! It’s got several meanings.
- It’s a means of indirectly connecting my personal blog with the movie one.
- My boyfriend came up with name and thought of the term, “He has no voice for radio,” and just applied it to film instead.
- It keeps up the “Reel Reviews” tradition. Since I’m an average person and not a big time critic, I have “no face”. I’m the EveryPerson who likes to talk about movies.
I would eventually like for NoFace to be more of a website than a blog. I want to ditch the standard 2-3 column pattern that almost all blog designs have and do something different. I found a really cool looking website template online that I’d like to use. However, I still want to use Wordpress to power it, and I like the interactive nature of a blog (i.e. comments), so I’d like to figure out how to insert a blog in a website, basically. All in due time though. For now, I’m more or less fine with the way it looks. In the short run, I’ll try to convert it to a 3 column so I won’t have a ridiculously long sidebar.
I don’t think I’ll have time for new reviews this week since I’ve got a paper due for class. Hopefully by Monday.

good luck with the new site!!!
you can use wordpress to create a homepage for your website, so that it looks like a “website” and the blog appears as a part of the site. you can do this by creating a “static front page.” see: http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page
i’ve been thinking of doing the same thing, but i can’t think of what i’d want on the frontpage. i don’t really see the point in it. i guess you’d want a static front page if you’re not running a blog but want to use wordpress as a CMS. for instance you can make your about page your front page. i might use it for my mom’s business site.
anyway, if you’re interesting in getting paid to blog movie reviews, check out this ad on craigslist: http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/wri/145747677.html
maybe you can telecommute.
Donyell- thanks!
Tinka- Thanks for the advice on the static front page. Actually I wanted a more dynamic front page. I didn’t want just a page with “Enter” in the middle of it that you click to get to the blog. I picture something like this:

A small excerpt of the article will be where the Last Samurai poster is in this photo; I’d have a couple of ads here and there; and under the “Movie Trailers” section I’d also have a small excerpt of the article that would lead me to the full post and trailer.
I think this in particular is a very nice website template but I’d have to pay for it, and I definitely won’t pay $67 for something if I can’t make it work.
Cool site there too! I’ll be reading.
That is a cool layout. I don’t see why you couldn’t do it with WordPress. You can use WordPress like a CMS. Another cool open source CMS is Mamboserver at http://www.mamboserver.com. Check out their gallery.
Tinka,
Yeah, I think it’s a cool layout too. I’m sure that technically it’s possible to do so, but I personally don’t know how
It took me forever just to figure out how to make a category template. Thanks for the info on mamboserver. It looks interesting.
