So, in case ya’ll are blind or something or just don’t pay attention to the Announcements section on the sidebar, I got a new blog. I was one of the lucky chosen ones who gets to try out a WordPress.com blog. Yes, I KNOW that I’ve been using WordPress all year but see, this new one is owned by WP itself (hence the wordpress.com domain name- duh). Not to mention that it’s free. Can’t beat that.
Anywho, my new blog is called Reel Reviews. As you can guess, it’s a movie review blog. Yeah I know- it’s not exactly original and yes, I should have checked beforehand to make sure there aren’t 4 other sites with the same name (which there are). I can’t change it though since it’s in the URL, so Reel Reviews it is. So come one over and check it out! Discuss the reviewed movies! Type in huge letters the word SPOILER, skip down several lines, then write what you want.
I’m also looking for guest reviewers. Come on- you know who you are. You’re just itching to write a scathing review of the shitty movie you just saw, or to praise the one you saw the other night. If you feel that such reviews just don’t “fit” with your blog, then by all means use mine! I have one rule: NO SPOILERS. Please. Anyway, if you’re interested, email the review to me by clicking on the little “email” button on the sidebar.
And now, a few words about the WordPress.com blog itself:
Overall, the blog software is ok. Since they’re still testing it out, there’s very, very little customization available. In fact, there’s none. You can’t put buttons, counters, or anything else down the sidebar and you can’t upload a theme of your choice. You also can’t upload any plugins. It also is still a bit buggy. For example, I had written a post several days ago but saved it for tonight. I edited the timestamp so that it reads today’s date and time, but when I clicked on “publish”, it wouldn’t show up on the page. I tried to save several times and even refreshed, but nothing happened. Finally I copied the post text, deleted the whole file, and pasted the text onto a new post file.
It seems to me that this blog is more for people who know next to nothing about HTML and definitely nothing about CSS- a blog for beginners. But I hear that the WordPress folks are working on making it it more customizable, similar to Blogger.
