It’s Very Quiet in Here

Man, I must really be losing my touch.

Two posts and not a single comment?

I’ve been observing this for the past couple of months but at the time chose not to say anything because I didn’t want to sound like I’m complaining. However, it seems that things are getting worse.

Here it is in a nutshell: I’ve lost visitors. Some have removed me from their blogrolls. People comment much less often these days, including the regulars.

Is there something wrong with my blog that I’m not aware of? Have people become bored of me?

I realize that it’s partly because I don’t post as much nor advertise as much as I used to. However, there are blogs that do the same, yet still have tons of commenters and readers. Also, this doesn’t explain why some people have removed me from their blogrolls. I don’t write offensive or incendiary posts- why would they unlink me?

I need some advice, you guys.

That is, if any of you are still reading.

I don’t write offensive or incendiary posts- why would they unlink me?…

    That might be the problem.

I’ve lost a bit of traffic because I don’t blog CONSTANTLY like I used to. I post as often, but I just can’t cruise through 100 blogs a day like when I first discovered blogging.

But your blog is a great read. You just don’t post half-naked pics of yourself like other girls do. And you don’t write in a manner that advertises your willingness to have sexual relations with your readers.

That cuts your demographic into about 1/10th.

I also enjoy reading your blog. It’s definitely not boring.

shhhh…. There’s people trying to lurk, ya know?

Bug- Yeah, I see what you mean, but I dunno. I’m just incapable of writing posts that piss people off. I worry too much about what people think of me, and I don’t want to receive insulting comments. And I certainly won’t post half naked pics of myself. You do want to keep your retinas, don’t you? :P

Marvo- Thanks! I’m glad you like it :)

drogulus-Ah, good point about lurkers. Thanks. Cool screenname, by the way. I think of the Rob Zombie song “Dragula”

i don’t think you need to write about things that piss people off to get comments. but you do know what the hot topics are - not suggesting that you become a political blog (unless you want to) - but you might notice that when you blog about love and religion and race, you get more comments.
sometimes, and i definitely find this at my blog, people read as they always do, enjoy it (i guess), but don’t entirely relate. i’ve gone way too much into the details of something not important but interesting to me and those are the posts when people don’t comment.

I like your blog. Sorry I haven’t been commenting lately…I’ve just been lazy with my own blog, lately. I know what you mean about losing commenters, though…although my blog is very small, it seemed like at first I had a few commenters, and that has slowed to a trickle. Although part of the blame definitely goes to me since I haven’t been blogging as much as I did at first. I think that’s one of the keys…regular updates. Your writing is interesting, though, so I wouldn’t worry much. Remember, the most important person you’re writing for is yourself! At least, that’s my philosophy.

yeah, i’ve become lazy about visiting blogs lately…i probably need another course on “time management”

anyway, there’s nothing wrong with your blog…when i do stop by, i always enjoy reading all the posts…in addition, i am a bit of a lurker, so a “comment” is a big deal for me…i don’t know if you track your traffic but usually for every comment i receive on my blog, i have quite a few visitors who don’t comment…

i also find that comments go up and down…i’m always surprised at the post that generate a “rush” on comments and which don’t…

finally, i wouldn’t take it personal if others remove your link…it happens…just keep blogging :-)

bugsbutt does have a point; if you posted nekid pix of yourself having sex with your readers, I’ll bet your readership would go up.

I wonder if anyone reads my own blog because I get very few comments. However, unlike you, I don’t respond to a lot of the comments I do get, so I blog mostly for myself.

wyn- I absolutely do not want to become a political blog. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t since I know nothing about politics :)

Chuck- Thanks :) Yes you’re right; regular updates is key. It’s tough though, huh? I don’t want to write meaningless crap just for the sake of posting once a day or every other day. Ah, if only my life were more exciting!

donyell- As a fellow psych doctoral student, I sympathize with ya. Even more since you’re ABD (all but dissertation for those who don’t know) and are totally busy. So I thank you for stopping by when you get the chance.

Dave- LOL, posting nekkid pix of myself having sex with readers ain’t gonna happen, so I’ll have to rely on this “writing” thing to get people to come by ;) BTW, I would comment more on your blog but I don’t really watch a lot of reality shows (except the one and only American Idol) and I know nothing about football so I don’t have much to say :)

I like the most embarrasing moments and when you bitch about other people. That’s just fun because I can relate. It’s seems the last two were a little less risky. Maybe that’s what happened. There was no open ended ending that people felt compelled to make comment for. Keep up the good work Toni Baloney, I love this stuff.
