Happy Birthday to MEEEEEEE!!!!!

Today is my birthday. I’m 29 years old. I can’t believe that I’m 29 years old. Where has the time gone?

I suppose that one tends to reflect on the past year on one’s birthday, but I rarely do. I don’t think that I’m any wiser, just older. A lot has changed in one year though. I moved out of my parents’ house (3 years was waaaay too long). I’m at my last year of class work (though still a loooooooong way to go for the PhD). Many things stay the same. I continue to write on this blog. I’m still with my boyfriend. I still play video games. My car is still a piece of shit. I’m not sure what this year will bring, but most likely it’ll be a good balance of ups and downs. I just hope there’ll be more ups than downs.

Most of my birthdays over the years have been great. Since it falls during Labor Day weekend, most of the time I’ve gone on little one day trips with my family- to Mexico, to San Diego, etc. Some have been low key but still fun. For example, when we celebrated my birthday last week, we went to miniature golf and then dinner. However, there have been some not so good birthdays. I remember one in which I had the flu and couldn’t go anywhere. But the worst birthday I’ve ever had was the year that my grandma died. You see, she passed away on Aug. 28th, and the funeral happened to fall on Sept. 2. It was very surreal. My family still took me out to dinner, but the mood was not at all festive. It’s a birthday I will never forget.

As I mentioned, I celebrated my birthday a week early with my family (and bf), namely because Friday is a work day and the fun would start only in the evening after everyone has come home from work. My boyfriend suggested early this morning that I treat myself and check out the King Tut exhibit, but unfortunately they’re not selling tickets for this day anymore (guess they sold out). I think I’ll just take it easy during the daytime, run a few errands, read some chapters for class, etc. I’m not sure what we’re doing tonight either. I had a hankering for lobster ever since I was watching some cooking show at Fry’s while I waited for my bf (he was talking to a salesman), so perhaps we’ll have a lobster dinner tonight.

We can’t stay up too late partying though. We have to be at the airport very early tommorow morning to catch a flight to Utah to meet up with my bf’s parents for Labor Day weekend. Yay! Gonna be fun.

And with that, I bid you all a fun or relaxing Labor Day weekend! See ya all Tuesday!

Happy Birthday to you!!! I would give you an honorary doctorate, but I think a doctorate degree is much better when you waste insane amounts of time reading, writing, and doing things like practicums. It’s also better when you spend large amounts of money on tuition, books, and Starbucks coffee to keep you awake when wasting insane amounts of time reading, writing, and doing things like practicums.

Also, I don’t think a honorary doctorate degree from the Institute of the Impulsive Buy is even worth the paper it’s printed on.

Anyway, once again, Happy Birthday! May all your birthday wishes come true. :-)

    happy birthday!
i’m sure you are wiser unless you spent the past year with your eyes shut and apparently you didn’t. :) time spent with family and the people you love around the date of your birthday is “celebration” enough, i think. that’s what you won’t be regretting later, having been able to spend that time with them.
and you are one year CLOSER to getting your phd. way to go :)

    Happy Birthday, Toni!

I just turned 29 myself (for the fourth time!), and I hope there are many more years of happiness and prosperity for you.

Bug- Oooh, spanking is so naughty ;)

    donyell- Thanks!

Marvo- I’d love an honorary degree from the Institute of the Impulsive Buy- just so long as you don’t make me go to a practicum.

wyn- Good point about celebrating with one’s family. Sometimes the small, intimate gatherings are the best.

Haemi- Hmmm yeah, it’s been pretty cool for my b-day to always fall around Labor Day weekend. :)

Dave- Thanks very much! And I can’t believe you’re 29(+3). From the pic I’ve seen, you look around 25! Ah, but a youthful appearance is a gift we Asians have :)

Happy Birthday Toni! Hope you have a great weekend. I myself am 36 (shudder) with another month to go before the big 3-7.
