End of the Tale
Published by Toni September 16th, 2004 in Uncategorized.Well, as promised, here is a recap of my last couple of days in Seattle.
Day 7-Evening: Had dinner and lovely conversation with C’s parents. Very cool, laidback people. One of the things they talked about was the 5 female buffalo they just purchased and how all their names begin with the letter P.
Disaster strikes, for one of my friends (called K) lost ALL the pictures from one of her memory cards! We were downloading everyone’s pictures from their digital cameras onto C’s laptop so she could burn them on CDs and make copies for everyone. When she got to K’s camera, she uploaded the pics from the first memory card. Things went smoothly. However, when C tried to upload the pics from the second memory card, a message asking if the card should be formatted popped up. C clicked “No?, but much to our dismay the pictures were wiped out regardless. We think that the camera being exposed to the moist sea air (since K was on the ferry to Victoria Island that morning) corrupted the card, though it doesn’t explain why the first card –and everyone else’s cameras- was ok. Poor K was devastated She looked like she was going to cry, since she had about a hundred pictures stored in that one card, but there was nothing we could do. We spent the rest of the evening looking at everyone else’s pictures and went to bed.
Day 8- Saturday
We said goodbye to three more people as K, D, and J (the last guy) left early morning. Since there were only three people left (me, C, and another girl A), we decided that it would be better to spend the night in Seattle so we’d have a much shorted drive to the airport. After a nice blueberry pancake breakfast, C took us to this cool looking waterfall (can’t remember the name), and after to this little place on the side of the road that sells berry smoothies. It was one of the best smoothies I ever had, a mixture of raspberry and marionberry- apparently a type of blackberry, but the name makes me think more of the former New York mayor Marion Berry. We then dropped off our pictures at Costco to have developed. I figured it would be easier if C could get copies of my pictures before I left. While the pictures were in Costco, we went to the outlet mall for some shopping.
Disaster struck again when we forgot that Costco closes at 6pm on Saturdays, and we were dismayed to find that we couldn’t get to our pictures! C reassured us that she’d pick them up on Monday and mail them to us.
Off to spend a rainy night in downtown Seattle. When we got there, we rested a bit then changed into more suitable, “nightlife? clothes. Our first stop was at a comedy club, where some audience members yelled at two guys near them because they were talking during the comedian’s routine. They tried to apologize, but the comedian and the audience kept giving them a hard time so they decided to leave. Our next stop was at a country western bar that had a mechanical bull, which we wanted to ride. Unfortunately, the line outside the bar and inside (for the bullride) was very, very long so we gave up. We found a different club. It was really stuffy inside (like all clubs), but this one had an upstairs outdoor deck so we spent most of our time there talking, drinking, and checking out guys. When the club closed, we had a late night snack of Mexican food and headed back to C’s apartment, where we crashed in sweet, sweet slumber.
Day 9- Sunday
We had one last hot tub session and did a little shopping. After we went out for lunch and a nice walk along Pike’s Marketplace, which is near the water. It was very relaxing but sad at the same time since it was our last day. After lunch we grabbed our luggage and headed for the airport.
So ends the tale of a meeting among friends, and I hope I get to see them next year when the reunion is held in Japan.
